Beijing Institute of Integrated traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) and Western Medicine on Geriatric Diseases was established in 2012.It is one of the 12 Beijing Institute of Integrated TCM and Western Medicine approved by Beijing Administration of TCM, as well as got guidance from the administration. The Institute is based on the Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University, the Beijing Geriatric Medical Research Center and the key disciplines of integrated TCM and Western medicine in geriatric neurology. Led by the department of TCM, with the multi-department joint, carried out the medical treatment, the teaching, the scientific research work of the combination of TCM and western medicine on the geriatric diseases.

Under the leadership of Professor Huang Xiao-bo, the Institute takes the basic and clinical aspects on geriatric diseases of integrated TCM and western medicine as the main research direction. The main directions include: the clinical and basic research on the prevention and treatment of senile dementia by TCM, Clinical and basic research on prevention and treatment of senile cerebrovascular diseases by TCM, clinical and basic research on prevention and treatment of Parkinson disease by TCM, clinical and basic research on prevention and treatment of pulmonary infection in the elderly by TCM, pharmacological study and the Clinical study of the herb-medicine on the geriatric diseases.

The Institute has 30 researchers, including 5 academic leaders, 10 doctoral supervisors and 12 master supervisors. It has a vertical epidemiological research base and a technology platform for drug research and development. The institute has obtained 31 scientific research projects, including 15 national projects, 7 provincial and ministerial projects and 9 local projects. Moreover, it has got several provincial and ministerial awards on scientific research achievements, including Beijing science and technology first prize 1. In recent years, the researchers have published more than 20 SCI papers and 100 papers in domestic statistical journals, got 5 applications for invention patents and 3 patents for invention patents，including one item of new drug clinical research approval was obtained.
