Foreign aid training program is a foreign-aid human resources development and cooperation project, which is an important part of China's foreign aid program, as well as an important way for China to carry out foreign cultural communication. At present, China's foreign aid training has involved more than 150 professional directions in over 20 fields, including politics, economy, diplomacy and medical care, etc. Foreign aid training programs are run by leading organizations in various industries entrusted by the states. Organizations that undertake foreign aid training program are required to be internationally recognized and also experienced in organizing foreign aid work.

The neurosurgery department of Xuanwu Hospital has been approved to host foreign aid training programs since 2012. It has been held for 9 terms, with a total of 270 trainees from 48 countries all over the world.
